'Birds of Paradise' (Aves del Paraiso) a walkabout

Inspired by the migration of the birds, the freedom of movement in their lives, how they are affected by climate change and our concerns with what’s happening to the birds that are in danger of extinction or extinct... a parallel of concerns but also a celebration of their beauty, their diversity and the joy they bring to our world and our lives.

They are storytellers and creatures of our imagination, their wings carry a variety of layers and textures of materials from which a multitude of stories will unfold, words and poems have been sewn, woven or printed onto the surfaces of the fabrics, to create two unique interactive carnivalesque creatures that will come alive through the street performances.

Cusan Theatre's Birds of Paradise are sculptural and shapeshifters a truly magical spectacle of colour and movement that will spark wonderment and imagination with in audiences of all ages.

The Birds of Paradise have been constructed by hand from recycled cloth, and other materials. They are inspired by the colours of the birds in our world, like the colours of all of us in this world and our interconnectedness.

Made by hand by Alan Pergusey and Tanya Cusan-Espinosa of Cusan Theatre.
